MURKANI jewellery believes in creating beautiful pieces in a mindful way with durable materials. Each collection is originally designed and hand drawn by our founder, Kiralee McNamara. Kiralee’s love of travel combined with her love of architecture and pattern have led to the creation of unique and contemporary jewellery pieces.
We work with suppliers that provide a good working environment and good working conditions to highly skilled artisans that use traditional and modern techniques. We use natural materials that are long wearing with the view to making our impact on the earth more sustainable.
Kiralee’s Australian background combined with extensive time living and travelling overseas has influenced her pieces to have a slightly relaxed boho aesthetic. The range includes delicate pieces that can be worn and loved every day, to more distinctive statement pieces inspired by the beautiful design and pattern in vintage lace right through to the decoration around the windows in the Agra Fort in India. Our boho luxe pieces can be mixed and matched back to each other, making them versatile and wearable everyday.
How it started
With a love of jewellery from an early age, Kiralee coveted pieces from her grandmother’s collection in her pre-teen years… followed shortly afterwards by her fimo faze (do you remember that!?), creating pieces in the shape of gum leaves and nuts and selling it to craft stores. Needless to say, these weren’t the best sellers! Years later however, the call to design jewellery returned after having her first child…and she handmade pieces while little Holly, her first born was sleeping. But it wasn’t until she moved to Vietnam with her husband and 3 young girls in 2011 that she felt the time was right to leave her corporate career behind and begin the new venture that has become Murkani.
The brand was launched in 2013 with a small collection of pieces inspired by Moorish architecture.
All Murkani jewellery is designed by Kiralee McNamara who has since returned home where she works with a lovely Melbourne-based team.
Murkani is now stocked in a selection of gorgeous independent boutiques in Australia as well as some international boutiques and online stores.
On March 2019, MURKANI jewellery announced the beginning of what we hope to be a long-standing partnership with HAGAR Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that supports women and children in Cambodia, Afghanistan and Vietnam, who have been victims of trafficking, modern slavery and abuse.
