My name is Kiralee McNamara and I am the owner and designer of Murkani Jewellery.

I started my business 5 years ago with a dream to create a business and life that I loved. I also had another dream which I am very proud to finally announce is now coming to fruition. I wanted to support women who are in less fortunate situations than myself and give them the opportunity to live a life of freedom with control over their own destinies. Last year I started working with HAGAR AUSTRALIA to help women and children in danger of slavery and trafficking to live free and more rewarding lives.

HAGAR is an international not-for-profit organisation that works to transform the lives of women and children who have been trafficked, enslaved or abused and to bring an end to these crimes. Their vision is to see communities free and healed from the trauma of human trafficking, slavery and abuse.

Murkani and Hagar

On March 8th 2019, International Women’s Day, we launched our first collection of necklaces called the FREEDOM COLLECTION.

$10 from every necklace purchased will go to supporting HAGAR’s vocational training programs in Cambodia.

On September 30th 2019, we introduced the matching earrings to our Freedom necklaces. For every pair sold, we will donate $5 to HAGAR Australia.

HAGAR provides individually-tailored support to each survivor:

The inspiration for the range came from the approach that HAGAR takes with each client and its desire to see them safe, free and thriving. The range features 3 necklace designs:

Protect Necklace

The Hamsa hand
symbolises protection

The Vintage Swallow symbolises freedom, both to make your own choices and financially.

The Lotus symbolises thriving, given the right conditions to grow.

Supporting Afghanistan with Hagar

You would have seen in recent days the unfolding situation in Afghanistan. The United Nations currently estimates that approximately 550,780 people across the country are displaced and without shelter, food and water. Hagar believes in doing “whatever it takes, for as long as it takes”, and as a result they have had a long history successfully working to improve the lives of the some of the most vulnerable in Afghanistan. Hagar are currently working in Afghanistan to assess the current situation thoroughly and develop a response plan so they can help those who are displaced and especially vulnerable. Working with other NGOs when possible, the Hagar Afghanistan team will be focusing on providing 4 key relief activities to provide practical and essential help to those currently in desperate situations.

Due to the extraordinary nature of this unexpected situation in Afghanistan, Hagar has none of these activities budgeted for this year and so, they are calling for our support. Donations will help make sure these activities can be implemented and will be directed where most needed when it is received. To donate, visit their website:
