An interview with Daisy Hill & Kiralee McNamara

An interview with Daisy Hill & Kiralee McNamara

In the lead-up to the launch of the CONNECTED Collection on the 09.10.2025, we sat down with proud Muruwari woman and Aboriginal Artist, Daisy Hill and MURKANI Founder & Designer, Kiralee McNamara to learn more about their third launch.

A well loved and ever-expanding collection first launched in Summer 2022, the CONNECTED Collection features artworks created by Aboriginal Artist Daisy Hill, reimagined into jewellery by MURKANI. In celebration of our First Nations people, the collection was conceived to honour the cultural traditions and knowledge passed down through generations for thousands of years.

In 2024, we released 7 new pieces across four distinct artworks, inspired by the natural beauty of the sea and sky. This season, we’ve expanded the CONNECTED Collection even further with 7 new pieces, thoughtfully created to complement and build upon the pieces from previous releases. Each addition embodies the spirit of connection, blending MURKANI's timeless design with the rich storytelling and symbolism in Daisy's artistry.

Q: What was your inspiration for the new pieces?

Daisy: The inspiration for these new pieces really came from listening - to the people who were drawn to the original collection, and to the pieces that resonated most deeply. We took some of the most-loved designs - like the Night Sky, Ocean Dreamer and Rainbow Spirit pendants - and reimagined them into new categories like earrings, bangles, and bracelets. Each piece still carries its original meaning and story, but now you can wear it in a different way, or layer it with something else that speaks to you. It was about expanding the collection while staying true to what people already connected with.

Q: What does the word Connected mean to you and why did you choose this word to name the collection?

Daisy: I chose the word 'Connected' because I believe we’re all deeply connected - to Mother Earth, to each other and to our own stories. These pieces are more than just jewellery - they carry meaning and when we wear them or gift them, they become reminders that we’re never alone, that everything is part of something greater. It’s about honouring the relationships that ground us and keep us connected.

Kiralee: I think post COVID, which was when we first started working together, the need for connection really deepened because people couldn’t see each other all the time. However they could gift connection even if they weren’t near them and then the meaning of the necklaces have their own meanings which connected them even further.

Q: How does storytelling play a role in each piece of jewellery in the collection?

Daisy: Storytelling is at the heart of everything I do - it’s honestly the most important part to me. As humans, we’re all storytellers. We all carry our own stories and I think that’s what people connect with most, the meaning behind something. When creating this
collection, it was really important that each piece held a story that others could see themselves in, something they could relate to or carry with them.

As an artist and especially in my culture, storytelling is how we connect, how we pass on knowledge, and how we make sense of the world. These pieces are little vessels of those stories.

Q: What is your favourite review you have received from a customer?

Kiralee: This is one of my favourites and it means so much to get reviews like these that people have put so much time into sharing their story and experience. Patricia bought the Nurturer necklace and left this review; “Purchased as gift for my first-born Granddaughter, Olivia turned 18 on the 28th of June. I adore it, this piece of jewellery perfectly represents the long line of women past & present in her life. I wanted something that would give her strength & love and keep the spirit of her Great Grandmothers and Aunties close to her. I also wanted something that reminded her of me and the unconditional love I have for her. She is the one who named me Nin when I became a grandmother 🖤💛❤️ Olivia absolutely loves it”

Q: Which piece you would be most likely to gift and why?

Kiralee: I would gift Soul Protector because I love the symbolism of the shells, I think they are so beautiful but also powerful symbols of protection and resilience and I think that’s such a good message and gift to give to someone you love.

Daisy: I’d choose the Rainbow Spirit Earrings. The meaning behind them is really special - they’re a reminder of those we’ve lost, those who are no longer physically with us but who continue to walk beside us in spirit. I think they make a beautiful and thoughtful gift for someone who’s grieving, going through a tough time, or even just missing a loved one. It’s a gentle way to remind them that their person is still with them, always.

Q: What do you hope people feel when they wear a piece from the Connected collection?

Kiralee: Each design has a different meaning and carries with it a different message of love, protection and strength. I hope when people wear it, they remember the person who gifted it to them and their intention, for example when people wear the Night Sky pendant. I hope they feel that they are loved to the moon and back.
